Nonoperative, open reduction and internal fixation or primary arthrodesis in the treatment of Lisfranc injuries: a prospective, randomized, multicenter trial – study protocol

Abstract: BackgroundLisfranc injuries are known to be rare and often overlooked injuries that can cause long-term disability and pain when missed or treated incorrectly. The wide variety of Lisfranc injuries ranges from subtle ligament distensions to open fracture dislocations. The treatment of Lisfranc joint injuries is still controversial and very little is known about what types of injury can be treated nonoperatively. The current literature provides only two randomized studies on dislocated Lisfranc injuries. These … Show more

“…At present, the treatment of Lisfranc joint injuries is mostly through open reduction and internal fixation. Clinically, there are many ways to choose internal fixation, mainly including Kirschner wire internal fixation, hollow screw internal fixation, and steel plate internal fixation [ 7 , 8 ]. Kirschner wire internal fixation has the advantages of simple operation and low cost, but its stability is poor, and the bone block is very easy to slip [ 9 , 10 ].…”

“…Eine aktuelle retrospektive Metaanalyse ergab keine Überlegenheit der mittels primärer Arthrodese versorgten Patientenkollektive [45]. Dies soll nun u. a. durch eine finnische multizentrisch prospektiv randomisierte Untersuchung evaluiert werden [46]. Erste Ergebnisse sind bald zu erwarten.…”
