Normal value of pulsatility index of umbilical artery in second and third trimester of pregnancy

Abstract: This cross sectional study was carried out on 60 pregnant Bangladeshi women in the department of Radiology and Imaging, BIRDEM for measurement of Pulsatility Index (PI) of umbilical artery of their fetuses by duplex colour Doppler sonography during 2 nd and 3 rd trimester of pregnancies. Considering total 2nd and 3rd trimesters the mean PI value of umbilical artery was 1.24 (SD±0.27). While considering the gestational in separate trimesters, study showed that the value of PI in 2 nd trimester was 1.33 (SD±0.29… Show more

“…In our study, the mean values of umbilical artery Doppler indices (S/D, PI) are similar to the study reported by Chanprapaph et al 19 and Owen et al 21 The values of mean PI are similar to those reported by Acharya et al 22 in Norway and Ferdous et al 23 in Bangladesh. The values of mean S/D are similar to those reported by Kofinas et al 24 in North Carolina, Harneet et al, 25 and Singh 26 in India.…”

“…The highest prevalence was reported by Yoon et al, who reported a prevalence of AEDF or REDF of 2.13% amongst 328 unselected-risk women in South Korea [38]. The four studies (898 women) conducted in lower middle-income countries (Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria and Tunisia) did not report any cases of AEDF or REDF [39][40][41][42]. Similarly, a three-country prospective cohort study of 431 healthy, low-risk women by Drukker et al in Brazil, Kenya and the UK identified no AEDF cases in any country [29].…”
