Notes: “The Dynamics of Plant Layout”

Abstract: This note develops a fathoming procedure for the Dynamic Plant Layout Problem (DPLP) discussed by Rosenblatt (1986) in this journal, This procedure can be used to reduce the number of candidate static layouts to be examined. An important feature of our procedure is that a feasible dynamic solution is not required in order to apply it. The effectiveness of this procedure depends on the relative magnitude of the shifting costs. Keywords: Facilities / Equipment Planning-Layout ; Dynamic Programming-Applications ; … Show more

“…Seguidamente, Batta [8], Urban [9] y [10] y Balakrishnan [11] contribuyeron a mejorar el procedimiento propuesto por Rosenblatt [7] al establecer límites, tanto superiores como inferiores, para la inversión total del proyecto y proponiendo procedimientos de solución que encuentran mejores resultados para los objetivos establecidos.…”

“…His model takes into consideration the material handling cost as well as the cost of relocating of machines from one period to the next. Improvements to the branch and bound procedure of Rosenblatt [2] were carried on by a number of following papers, including [6,7]. Variants of the basic dynamic layout problem were studied in [8,9].…”

“…A review of papers on the dynamic layout problem up to 1998 is available in [6] where the numerous algorithms were categorized by department size (equal and unequal) or by certainty (deterministic and stochastic material flow). Also, Kulturel-Konak [10] mentioned the importance of DFLP.…”
