Novel Epoxynorbornane Monomers. 2. Cationic Photopolymerization

Abstract: The reactivity of a novel series of mono-, di-, and multifunctional monomers bearing the epoxynorbornane group in photoinduced cationic polymerization was determined using Fourier transform real-time infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning photocalorimetry. Comparisons were made between the monomers of this investigation containing the epoxynorbornane group with monomers of similar structure bearing epoxycyclohexane groups. Although the cationic polymerizations of the epoxynorborane functional monomers… Show more

“…The conversion rates are derived from the changes in the infrared absorption bands of the monomer. The regions of interest correspond to the decrease in the epoxide absorption bands in the 800-900 cm -1 region which corresponds to the C-H bond stretching vibration of epoxide and to the increase of the peaks at 1050-1150 cm -1 assigned to the absorption of the (C-O-C) groups in the poly(ether) which is produced upon photopolymerization 64,65 .…”

“…эпоксидирование непредельных мостиковых углеводородов с участием экологически более чистых окислителейкислорода воздуха или пероксида водорода в настоящее время продолжает привлекать внимание исследователей. Имеется ряд сообщений об использовании этих соединений в качестве мономеров для получения полимеров спецназначения, композиционных материалов, применяемых в электротехнике и медицине [1][2][3].…”

“…The kinetics of photopolymerizations of the monomers were studied by IR spectroscopy. The decrease upon UV exposure of the IR absorption bands characteristic of epoxy groups at 865 cm −1 and 910 cm −1 was recorded [12,13]. The degree of conversion of the epoxy groups at any time during the UV irradiation was established by measuring the peak height under the specific absorption band according to equation (1):…”
