Novel method for the rapid and specific extraction of multiple β2‐agonist residues in food by tailor‐made Monolith‐MIPs extraction disks and detection by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry

Abstract: A quick and specific pretreatment method based on a series of extraction clean-up disks, consisting of molecularly imprinted polymer monoliths and C18 adsorbent, was developed for the specific enrichment of salbutamol and clenbuterol residues in food. The molecularly imprinted monolithic polymer disk was synthesized using salbutamol as a template through a one-step synthesis process. It can simultaneously and specifically recognize salbutamol and clenbuterol. The monolithic polymer disk and series of C18 disks… Show more

“…Another possibility would be the use of highly selective sorbent materials, such as those based on restricted access media (RAM), affinity columns or molecularly imprinted materials (MIPs) 34 . However, due to the hydrophilic nature of most of these sorbent, in general, these materials have been mainly used for the purification of previously extracted microcontaminants (see Table 1 below) and in combination with LC for subsequent analyte determination 84 , at least indeed solvent exchange and, when required, a previous analyte derivatization 27 was performed.…”

“…Residues of β-agonist substances are mainly detected and confirmed with gas and liquid chromatography methods, typically high-performance liquid chromatography, with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) ( 1 , 3 , 7 , 9 , 12 , 13 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 22 , 23 , 25 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ). The aim of this study was to develop a method for the detection and determination of clenbuterol, salbutamol, mabuterol, mapenterol, terbutaline, brombuterol, zilpaterol, isoxsuprine and ractopamine in feed, drinking water and animal tissues from different species, i.e .…”

“…For these potential side effects, detection of the SBS in body fluids and urine is very important. Spectrophotometric techniques [4][5][6][7][8], gas chromatography-mass spectrometry [9,10], high performance liquid chromatography [11,12], liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry [13][14][15], capillary electrophoresis [16][17][18][19][20] and chemiluminescence [21,22] are used for the determination of salbutamol in different samples. These techniques need costly equipment, competent personnel and require complex sample pretreatment procedure.…”
