“…β-TCP has been used primarily in synthesizing biphasic or monophasic bioceramics and α-TCP is part of many bone cements. β-TCP has been used more extensively in clinical applications of dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, tissue engineering and orthopedics than α-TCP [163][164][165] . In dental composite, TCP as a filler has been reported to increase water absorption due to the loss of minerals when it comes into contact with water, which further causes weakening of the mechanical strength of filling.…”

“…Finally, synthetic alloplastic biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite (HA) [ 149 , 150 , 151 ], TCP [ 152 ], a calcium-layered-polymer of polymethyl methacrylate and hydroxyethyl methacrylate [ 153 ], and bioactive glass [ 154 ] have been produced. For bone regeneration applications, injectable and absorbable scaffolds have been produced [ 155 , 156 ]. Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) were made from powders combined with a liquid to make a paste [ 157 , 158 ].…”

“…It was being used as an absorbable material in the development of tissue engineering scaffolds [ 96 ]. β-TCP had found more uses in clinical applications comparatively, and was also used in developing monophasic/biphasic bioceramics [ 97 , 98 , 99 , 100 , 101 ]. However, composites containing α-TCP were common in repairing bone defects [ 60 , 102 ].…”
