Novel platensimycin derivatives with herbicidal activity

Abstract: All of the tested compounds have been found to exhibit promising seed germination inhibition. We can conclude that lumisantonin was on average the most lethal against all plant species evaluated; however, two of the novel amides have exhibited inhibition selectivity against monocotyledons when compared with dicotyledons. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry.

“…14 The viability of this methodology is observed in the literature. [15][16][17] Among the several natural phytotoxins, it is worth mentioning that isobenzofuranones, which are isolated mainly from plants, are the main sources of these compounds. For example, chrycolide 1 (Fig.…”

“…In 90‐mm‐diameter Petri dishes containing germination paper, 20 onion seeds, 20 lettuce seeds, and 50 beggartick seeds were distributed and 5.0 ml of the test solution was added to each plate. A total of 20 seeds of cucumber and 9.0 mL of the test solution were added to 145‐mm‐diameter Petri dishes . The dishes were sealed with plastic film and kept in a germination chamber (B.O.D., Piracicaba, Brazil) at 25 °C, in the absence of light, for 120 h (5 days).…”

“…These tests usually involve the assessment of germination and root/shoot growth of seeds exposed to the pesticides. 11 Phytochemicals usually exhibit low environmental persistence and toxicity to mammals, which overcome many of the problems arising from the harmful effects of insecticides in the environment and in food security. 12,13 For these reasons, natural products have been used as models for the development of synthetic pesticides.…”
