Novel smart window using photonic crystal for energy saving

Abstract: Smart windows are emerging as an effective way of minimizing energy consumption in buildings. They attracted the major relevance for minimizing energy consumption in buildings. More research studies are needed to design smart windows with operating wide range and don’t require additional energy to operate. We suggest a novel smart window structure using photonic crystal to regulate the solar radiation intensity by preventing it from penetrating the buildings in summer. For the first time, the suggested smart w… Show more

“…One-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) is the simplest photonic crystal structure and is easy to manufacture, which can be used to design absorbers [20][21][22][23], sensors [24][25][26] and so on [27][28][29]. In this paper, we make full use of the local properties of photonic crystals and the excellent optical properties of graphene, and propose a structure based on 1DPC and graphene which can achieve tunable multichannel perfect absorption.…”

“…In order to meet the demands of contemporary zero-energy buildings, there is currently a significant market for smart partition panels that may act as wide-area switchable gates for light transactions with the outside world. At the moment, the windows and partitions in use are only minimally opaque, and the appropriate level of see-through visibility is only possible with the employment of stationary fixtures like screens, curtains, or combinations of these. However, the degree of window transparency may not always be controllable by the user, and such is the case for opaque glasses.…”

“…There remains significant interest in the solution-processed deposition of monolayer films [1,2], including photonic crystal structures for smart sensing [3,4,5,6,7]. The inverse structures that are produced via the directed and templated assembly around such films also exhibit a range of intriguing light-matter interactions [1,3,8,9].…”
