“…In 2019, Li and his group suggested a unique type of heterojunction, i.e., the S-scheme junction. 19 The newly developed S-scheme junction with spatially alienated reduction and oxidation units is more promising as photoproduced electron and holes gather at the conduction band (CB) and valence band (VB) positions, respectively. Such innovations guarantee the photon absorption, exciton separation, and amplified redox capability of charge carriers.…”

“…If the holes are transferred from the valence band (VB) of Sv-ZIS to the VB of 3DA-CN under visible light irradiation, the ˙OH will not be captured, indicating that the existence of the S–C bonds promotes the electrons transfer direction with the S-scheme mechanism. 69–71 Meanwhile, the intensity of the signal peak of ˙OH is weaker than that of ˙O 2 − , ascribed to the VB position of Sv-ZIS (2.01 V) being slightly larger than the redox potential of OH − /˙OH (1.99 V). This result is consistent with the results of the trapping experiments showing that ˙OH are not the dominant active species.…”

“…26 In addition, Li et al proposed a unique S-scheme heterojunction with excellent e − /h + pair separation resulting in improved activity. 27 In the search toward finding a suitable candidate for designing robust g-C 3 N 4 -based S-scheme heterojunctions, Fe 2 O 3 quantum dots (FQDs) are found to be an ideal candidate because of their fascinating intrinsic characteristics. 28 Adding more to the text, several g-C 3 N 4based heterojunctions have been reported toward enhanced H 2 O 2 production by photocatalytic O 2 reduction under ambient conditions.…”

“…Interestingly, in this direction, our group has reported several BCN heterojunction-based systems toward different photocatalytic application with a notable catalytic efficiency. , Additionally, their step-scheme (S-scheme) based charge dynamics give more information regarding separation and transformation of excitons through band bending, internal electric fields, and Coulombic force interpretation .
