Nuclear Charge Distribution in the Spontaneous Fission of ²⁵²Cf: Isotopic Yield Distribution for Technetium Isotopes

Abstract

The fractional independent yields (FIY) of 101 Tc, I03 Tc, 104 Tc and 10 s Tc in the spontaneous fission of 2 5 2 Cf were determined by following the decay of technetium after rapid chemical separation from molybdenum. All the yields were determined for the first time. Except for 101 Tc, the yields for 10 3 Tc, 104 Tc and 105 Tc fall on a single Gaussian curve. The values of the most probable mass Ap and of the isotopic dispersion parameter a\ were found to be 107.30 ± 0.60 and 1.80 ± 0.30 respectively. The yields of »«-««T c are consistent with the yields of cesium isotopes which are complementary to technetium. Further the most probable charge (Zp) and the width of the charge distribution αχ for mass chain 105 has been determined using the measured fractional cumulative yields (FCY) of 105 Mo and 105 Tc. The values of Zp and σχ for mass chain 105 are 42.30 ± 0.15 and 0.55 ± 0.10 respectively.
