Beyond-mean-field boson-fermion model for odd-mass nuclei

A novel method for calculating spectroscopic properties of medium-mass and heavy atomic nuclei with an odd number of nucleons is introduced, based on the framework of nuclear energy density functional theory and the particle-core coupling scheme. The deformation energy surface of the even-even core, as well as the spherical single-particle energies and occupation probabilities of the odd particle(s), are obtained in a self-consistent mean-field calculation determined by the choice of the energy density functional and pairing interaction. This method uniquely determines the parameters of the Hamiltonian of the boson core, and only the strength of the particle-core coupling is specifically adjusted to selected data for a particular nucleus. The approach is illustrated in a systematic study of low-energy excitation spectra and transition rates of axially deformed odd-mass Eu isotopes.

It is shown within the microscopic approach combining the quasiparticle-phonon nuclear model and the nonadiabatic rotational model (QPNM + NRM) that a complicated behaviour of E 1 transitions in nuclei 153, lSSEu and lss, 157Tb can be described only if both the Coriolis and quasiparticle-phonon interactions are taken into account. In contrast with the results obtained in the NRM allowing for pairing and the Coriolis forces only, QPNM +NRM calculations provide a considerable increase in E I(AK=0) transitions whereas E I(IAKI = 1) transitions can undergo either increase or essential decrease. We also describe the low-lying states of the considered nuclei and demonstrate the decisive role of the giant dipole resonance "tail" in E 1 transitions between the low-lying states. The obtained results are analysed in detail.

The transitional nucleus 152Eu has been studied using the (n, e), (n, 7), (n .... 7), (n, 77), (d,p), (d, t) and (p, d) reactions. The experiments have been performed at nine different laboratories. A model independent level scheme was established including 95 levels below 510 keV and nearly 900 transitions by combination of low energy transitions and reaction data. More than 20 additional levels result from gamma rays and/or charged particle reactions. The level scheme is interpreted in terms of the Nilsson model indicating that 152Eu is a deformed nucleus. Seven rotational bands and Nilsson configurations are established. An additional 27 rotational bands are tentatively or speculatively assugned. Gallagher-Moszkowski splittings are discussed. The neutron binding energy was determined as 6305.2 __ 0.5 keV. The energy of the 9.3h0-isomer is 45.599keV. The lifetimes of four levels were measured.Nuclear Reactions 15tEu(n, 7), E, =thermal and resonance; measured E.~, I~,E ..... Magnetic electron spectrometer, curved crystal spectrometer, Ge(Li) and Si(Li) detectors, magnetic spectrographs. Enriched targets.
