Nuclear Overhauser Enhancement-Mediated Magnetization Transfer Imaging in Glioma with Different Progression at 7 T

Abstract: Glioma is a malignant neoplasm affecting the central nervous system. The conventional approaches to diagnosis, such as T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), and contrast-enhanced T1WI, give an oversimplified representation of anatomic structures. Nuclear Overhauser enhancement (NOE) imaging is a special form of magnetization transfer (MT) that provides a new way to detect small solute pools through indirect measurement of attenuated water signals, and makes it possible to probe semisolid macr… Show more

“…This is consistent with a previous study showing that amide proton exchange is base-catalyzed [41]. The observed CEST spectrum depends on the imaging parameters as well as on the underlying tissue microenvironment [35, 39, 40]. Therefore, we optimized the CEST parameters, including pulse duration and saturation power of the irradiation RF pulse on a phantom.…”

“…All CEST image processing and data analysis were performed using custom-written scripts in MATLAB (Mathworks, Natick, MA, USA, R2011b). The Water Saturation Shift Reference (WASSR) method was used to correct for B 0 field inhomogeneity [40]. Regions of interest were drawn manually based on the T2-weighted images covering the entire tumor.…”

“…All rats were performed MR imaging at 28 days after the intracerebroventricular injection with Aβ25-35/sterile normal saline in the AD group/control group. Before MR examination, all rats were allowed to fast for 24 h. The rats were firstly anesthetized in an induction box with 4% isoflurane in oxygen and continued to inhale the gas mixture of 1.5%/98.5% isoflurane/oxygen via a nose tube during the MRI scanning (Tang et al, 2017). The respiration rate was monitored and maintained by animal physiological monitoring and gating systems (model 1030, SAII, United States).…”

“…B0 map, B1 map, T1 map, and T2 map were obtained from the same slice, as described in our previous studies ( 27 29 ). Specifically, the B0 map was obtained by dual echo method with delta TE of 2 ms. B1 map was obtained using the double-angle method with two flip angles of 60 deg and 120 deg.…”
