Numerical analysis of electrostatic ion cyclotron instability in an electron-positron-ion plasma

Abstract: This paper presents a theoretical study of the effects of positron density on the electrostatic ion cyclotron instability in an electron-positron-ion plasma using the kinetic theory approach. It is supposed that positrons and electrons can drift parallel to the magnetic field either in the same or the opposite directions. The dispersion relation for the electrostatic ion cyclotron waves in an electron-positron-ion plasma is derived, and the numerical results are investigated. It is found that an increase in po… Show more

“…It was also reported that the growth rate in unidirectional streaming is larger than the counter-streaming case. [12] Similar to the classical plasma, streaming instability has also become the subject of intense research in the field of quantum plasmas during the last decade. [13][14][15][16] For the first time, streaming instability was studied with the help of the quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model, a new quantum-nature unstable mode was reported in the electron-ion plasma.…”

“…Bashir and Vranjes [24] has studied the unstable kinetic drift wave in an electronion plasma can very effectively be suppressed by adding an extra flowing ion (or plasma) population. Theoretical study of the effects of positron density on the electrostatic ion cyclotron instability in an electron-positron-ion plasma using the kinetic theory approach by assuming that positrons and electrons can drift parallel to the magnetic field either in the same or the opposite directions has been studied by Khorashadizadeh et al [25].…”
