Abstract:Tensile residual stress (RS) peaks near the weld toe accelerate crack generation and propagation stages reducing dramatically the life of welded components. In order to relief RS, components are typically heat-treated. However, heat treatments can affect the microstructure compromising mechanical properties. In addition, their application in big structures is complex due to size limitations. As an alternative, mechanical treatments such as shot peening can be locally applied. Moreover, they generate local comp… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
