Numerical simulation of flow field in vascular after artery bypass and stents surgery based on FLUENT

Abstract

In recent years, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation software has become increasingly prevalent in the study of hemodynamics. The choice between artery bypass and stent surgeries has long been a subject of debate within this field. This paper use ANSYS FLUENT for numerical simulations to investigate the flow dynamics post-surgery, aiming to compare the advantages and disadvantages of these surgical methods and thus inform decision-making for medical professionals. The simulations reveal that post-artery bypass surgery, blood flow near the vessel wall is accelerated while it slows in the central region, which could effectively mitigate atherosclerosis. However, due to external pressure on the vascular adventitia, the internal diameter in the stent region is reduced compared to a normal vessel, leading to a highspeed flow area within the stent that enhances blood circulation. Ultimately, the choice of surgical intervention should consider the patient's specific conditions, including age, disease duration, and severity, to determine the most suitable approach. It's crucial to recognize that surgery is merely one component of treatment; adopting healthy lifestyle habits is essential to prevent the recurrence of vascular blockages.
