Numerical simulation of the area shrinkage mass for the waist of elastic pantyhose by using FEM

Abstract: Purpose The area shrinkage of the body under pressure is very important to evaluate the comfort of pressure sense, and it is an important index that appraises compression garment. The purpose of this paper is to obtain the area shrinkage mass of the waist cross section by using the finite-element method (FEM), and the waist of women’s pantyhose could be designed with a different degree of elasticity during the course of design based on clothing pressure comfort. Design/methodology/approach This study aimed a… Show more

“…This study develops a reliable method to predict the pressure distribution of undergarments, which effectively provides parameters for undergarment comfort design. In the literature [12], finite element analysis software was used to construct a 3D model of the waist region of an athletic pantyhose and to determine the physical properties and parameters of the material. Then, they performed a mechanical analysis of the model and simulated the comfort of the waist region of the sports pantyhose in its natural state after being subjected to tensile forces.…”

“…Because of this, there are studies that try to understand the psychological effects of pressure from clothes as in the works. [19][20][21][22] Other works use numerical simulation to understand how the clothing interacts with the people as in the works of [23][24][25][26] or algorithms are used to try to predict the pressure on the body as in the work of Cheng et al 27 There are efforts to scale the size of clothing using technologies such as virtual reality 28 or 3D body scanning. 29 In relation to these concerns about the pressure on the body, there is already a study that attempts to design a pant that relieves the pressure when performing some movement, as in the case of Bragança et al, 30 research, where the highest pressures exerted were measured on the body and in these regions were placed reliefs.…”
