Purpose: To explore the experiences of older Filipino migrants adjusting to living permanently in New Zealand.Method: The qualitative descriptive approach taken in this study involved 17 individual face-to-face interviews of older Filipino migrants in New Zealand.Results: Three main themes emerged from the data. The first theme was “moving backwards and moving forward”, which described how these older Filipino migrants adjusted to challenges they experienced with migration. The second theme was “engaging with health services” and presented challenges relating to the New Zealand healthcare system, including a lack of knowledge of the nature of health services, language barriers, and differences in cultural views. The third theme, “new-found home”, highlighted establishing a Filipino identity in New Zealand and adjusting to the challenges of relocation.Conclusion: Adjustment to life in New Zealand for these older Filipino migrants meant starting over again by building new values through learning the basics and then moving forward from there.

Resumo Objetivo Elaborar um questionário para avaliação da violência no trabalho sofrida ou testemunhada por trabalhadores de enfermagem e avaliar sua validade aparente. Métodos Estudo metodológico com participação de cinco juízes selecionados a critério de competência. Os juízes avaliariam o questionário segundo os critérios abrangência, objetividade, organização e pertinência. Foi apresentado, por meio da estatística descritiva, o porcentual de presença ou ausência dos critérios, em cada item avaliado, na primeira e segunda rodada de avaliação. Resultados O questionário foi estruturado em 5 seções, com 54 questões, e teve como referência de estrutura e conteúdo alguns dos instrumentos existentes e a literatura especializada sobre violência no trabalho. Na segunda rodada de avaliação, obteve-se avaliação favorável dos juízes quanto à presença dos critérios por item avaliado. Conclusão Espera-se que o questionário possa representar, aos interessados, mais uma possibilidade de mensuração da ocorrência de violência no ambiente de trabalho na enfermagem e na saúde.

RESUMOO objetivo do estudo é descrever o processo de adaptação e validação da escala Partner Communication Scale-PCS com adolescentes do sexo feminino em Fortaleza, CE. Pesquisa metodológica, de abordagem quantitativa, realizada com 313 adolescentes, entre 14 a 18 anos, que já haviam tido o primeiro intercurso sexual. O processo de adaptação transcultural seguiu as etapas: tradução, retrotradução, avaliação das traduções por um comitê de juízes e teste da versão pré-final. A escala foi aplicada com um questionário sociodemográfico e de variáveis sexuais e reprodutivas, via computador, em novembro/2010 a janeiro/2011. A confiabilidade foi verificada por meio do teste alfa de Cronbach (0.86) e demonstrou que pode ser aplicada no cenário da atenção primá-ria à saúde, durante as consultas de enfermagem ao adolescente, e que permite identificar fatores que dificultam/facilitam a comunicação, principalmente em relação às DST/HIV. A escala mostrou-se adequada para verificar a comunicação entre os parceiros sexuais na adolescência. DESCRITORES ABSTRACTThis study aimed to describe the process of adaptation and validation of the Partner Communication Scale with female adolescents in Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. This methodological research, with a quantitative approach, was conducted with 313 adolescent, aged 14-18 years who had already lost their virginity. The transcultural adaptation process was performed by using translation, back translation, evaluation of the translations by a committee of judges, and testing of the final-draft version. The scale was administered with a sociodemographic questionnaire including sexual and reproductive variables, from November 2010 to January 2011. The reliability was assessed by the Cronbach's alpha (0.86), which demonstrated that it can be successfully applied in the setting of primary health care, during nurse consultations. Moreover, the scale allows for the identification of factors that hinder or facilitate communication, especially concerning sexually transmitted diseases. The scale is an adequate way to verify communication between sexual partners in adolescence.
