“…In particular, among botanicals, some essential oils were reported to affect hemostasis in various experimental models (Janssens et al, 1990;Kumagai et al, 1994;Whitaker et al, 2000). Formulations of garlic, containing alk(en)yl thiosulfates in particular, emerged as effective compounds in inhibiting platelet aggregation in human volunteers (Rahman, 2001 Moreover, onion and origanum displayed antiplatelet properties in human plasma by inhibiting arachidonate cascade and thrombin activity, respectively (Goun et al, 2002).…”

“…The fixed oil contains myristin and myristic acid. Nutmeg yields 5–15% of volatile oil, which contains pinene, sabinene, camphene, myristicin, elemicin, isoelemicin, eugenol, isoeugenol, methoxyeugenol, safrole, dimeric phenylpropanoids, lignas and neolignas [1,13,14] and by expression it yields a product known as nutmeg butter. Eugenol the major constituent inhibits lipid peroxidation and maintains activities of enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutamine transferase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase [15], and has also been reported to have vasodilatory [16] and smooth muscle relaxant property [17].…”

“…In the recent literature, MF has been investigated for its hypolipidemic, antithrombotic, antiplatelet aggregating, antifungal, aphrodisiac, anxiogenic, anti-ulcerogenic, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities (Ozaki et al, 1989;Park et al, 1998;Capasso et al, 2000;Sonavane et al, 2001Sonavane et al, , 2002Morita et al, 2003;Chung et al, 2006). MF has been reported to contain 25-30% fixed oils and 5-15% volatile oils such as camphene, elemicin, eugenol, isoelemicin, isoeugenol, methoxyeugenol, pinen, sabinene, safrol, and also chemical substances such as dihydroguaiaretic acid, myristic acid, myristicin, and ligan (Forrest & Heacock, 1972;Isogai et al, 1973;Janssen et al, 1990).…”
