Nutraceuticals Synergistically Promote Proliferation of Human Stem Cells

Abstract: A viable alternative to stem cell transplantation is to design approaches that stimulate endogenous stem cells to promote healing and regenerative medicine. Many natural compounds have been shown to promote healing; however, the effects of these compounds on stem cells have not been investigated. We report here the effects of several natural compounds on the proliferation of human bone marrow and human CD34(+) and CD133(+) cells. A dose-related effect of blueberry, green tea, catechin, carnosine, and vitamin D… Show more

“…NT-020 is a proprietary formulation of blueberry, green tea, Vitamin D3, and carnosine based upon previously published research. 17,21 However, in this previous study 21 a higher level of Vitamin D3 was included in the formulation. The present dosing for NT-020 and vehicle consisted of daily oral administration (using a gavage) over a 2-week pre-stroke period.…”

“…In using NT-020, the highest dosages of the components determined to promote the greatest amount of cell proliferation in the in vitro cell studies 21 were adjusted accordingly for in vivo administration. NT-020 is a proprietary formulation of blueberry, green tea, Vitamin D3, and carnosine based upon previously published research.…”

“…The key element of senescence appears to be the loss of our viable cells across the tissues and organs of the body, so that the cellular matrix, like a coral reef, remains after (25), failure of stem cell regeneration (26), lack of caloric intake restriction (so that the body metabolism operates at an enhanced rate) (27), or something else. Apparently, these undetermined factors affect our lives more than we think.…”

“…Numerous botanical species and plant parts contain a diverse array of polyphenolic phytochemicals which exert cancer-chemopreventive effects in man by its antiinflammatory, anti-oxidant, phytohormonal, homeostatic effects (hormesis) in immune cells and/or cancer (stem)cells (Bickford et al, 2006;Blanpain & Fuchs, 2009;Crea et al, 2009;Dijsselbloem et al, 2004;Kawasaki et al, 2008;Shytle et al, 2007;Surh, 2003;Zhou et al, 2008). Upon re-exploration of its biological activities, various nutritional natural compounds (including epigallocatechingallate, resveratrol, genistein, curcumin, isothiocyanates, withanolides, …) were found to interfere with enzymatic activity of DNMT, Class I, II, IV HDAC, HAT and Class III HDAC sirtuins (SIRT) which modulate cancer-inflammation ( (Arasaradnam et al, 2008;Delage & Dashwood, 2008;Fang et al, 2007;Folmer et al, 2010;Hauser & Jung, 2008;Jackson et al, 2010;Kirk et al, 2008;Kontogiorgis et al, 2010;Link et al, 2010;Suzuki & Miyata, 2006;Szarc vel Szic et al, 2010;Vaquero & Reinberg, 2009), and references included).…”
