Nutritional composition and biological activities of 17 Chinese adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) varieties

Abstract: Seventeen Chinese adzuki (Vignaumbellata.) bean varieties were collected and milled. The nutritional compositions including starch, fat, protein and phytochemicals were analyzed. Results obtained showed that these adzuki beans have a high content of resistant starch which accounts for about 23.57% of total starch, and have suitable amino acid constitutions. Palmitic acid (27.68%), linoleic acid (33.11%) and linolenic acid (26.61%) were the dominant fatty acids. Besides, four bound phenolic acid and two free ph… Show more

“…For the DPPH assay and ABTS + assay, QLP was dissolved in distilled water to final concentrations of 3.20, 1.60, 0.80, 0.40 and 0.20 g L −1 , and distilled water was used as the control. Results were calculated according to reported equations . For the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay, QLP was dissolved in 50% methanol to final concentrations of 3.20, 1.60, 0.80, 0.40 and 0.20 g L −1 , and a Trolox standard was used as the control.…”

“…Extracts for the determination of antioxidant compounds, antioxidant activities, and antiproliferation activity were prepared according to the method of Shi, Yao, Zhu, and Ren (2017) and some modifications were made. In brief, two grams of proso millet flours were mixed with 20 mL of 70% methanol in a 50-mL centrifuge tube.…”
