O papel moderador do género na relação entre o workaholism e o conflito trabalho-família/família trabalho e as suas implicações ao nível do bem-estar

Abstract

Currently, there are countless changes that can be verified in different sectors of society. The family and the expectations that companies place on their employees, through the high demands, are notions that deserve particular attention given the need to establish a balance point between these aspects of inclusion. The impossibility of complementing the family and work domains is strongly correlated with workaholism, translating this symbiosis into consequences for the well-being of workers. Given its relevance, this quantitative study illustrates the following main objectives: 1) to observe the effect of workaholism on the work-family/family-work conflict; 2) verify the effect of these variables on well-being; 3) observe the role of gender as a moderator of the relationship between workaholism and work-family/family-work conflict; workaholism and well-being; the work-family/family-work conflict and well-being. Based on a sample consisting of 321 participants, 187 female and 130 male, aged between 18 and 68 years (M = 36.54; SD = 11.67), the results showed that workaholism and work-family are significant predictors of wellbeing and that workaholism influences work-family conflict. At the gender level, there were only statistically significant differences in the workaholism variable and its dimensions, with men showing higher mean values compared to women. It is imperative that companies pay attention to the need to establish a set of methodologies aimed at reconciling domains, preventing and avoiding excessive behavior and implementing practices that promote the well-being of their human capital.
