O6-plane backreaction on scale-separated Type IIA AdS$_3$ vacua

Maxim Emelin,
Fotis Farakos,
George Tringas

Abstract: We evaluate the backreaction of O6-planes in scale-separated AdS 3 flux vacua of massive Type IIA. Using the appropriate flux scaling we show that the corrections to the various background fields and moduli are controlled and subleading when going from smeared to localized sources. Similarly, the backreaction corrections to the scalar potential are parametrically small in the scale-separation limit, assuming always that the near-O6-plane singularities will find a resolution within string theory, even in the pr… Show more

“…On the the other hand, certain classes of string theory compactifications [7], based on earlier works [8,9], are known to be in tension with these conjectures. 1 Such models have been revisited recently and their understanding has been improved beyond the smeared approximation for the involved sources [12][13][14][15].…”

“…Second, the most widely studied AdS vacua in string theory are of Freund-Rubin type [55,56] or exhibit similar features, by which we mean that the size of the internal space R KK is not parametrically smaller than R AdS . This property was recently studied for example in [51,[57][58][59][60][61][62][63] and has led to the AdS distance conjecture [53] that states that for infinite families of AdS vacua with V AdS → 0, there exist a tower of massive states with masses that satisfy m tower ∼ |V AdS | α for some positive JHEP06(2022)166 α of order one. The strong version of this conjecture says that supersymmetric AdS vacua α = 1/2.…”

“…These are a class of fourdimensional N = 1 anti-de Sitter vacua from massive IIA compactifications, usually denoted as DGKT vacua [38] (see also [39,40]), their double T-dual versions in massless IIA/M-theory [41] and three-dimensional vacua of [42][43][44] from massive IIA on 𝐺 2 orientifolds. Even if these models recently passed non-trivial tests [41,[45][46][47], their precise embedding in string theory is yet not completely understood. In the following, we will show how a relation of the type 𝐿 𝐴𝑑𝑆 ∼ 𝐿 𝐾 𝐾 can be derived from the magnetic WGC in vacua with at least eight supercharges.…”
