Observation of the DecayB+K+Kπ+

Abstract: We report the observation of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K{+}K{-}pi{+}. Using a data sample of 347.5 fb{-1} collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector, we observe 429+/-43 signal events with a significance of 9.6sigma. We measure the inclusive branching fraction B(B{+}-->K{+}K{-}pi{+})=[5.0+/-0.5(stat)+/-0.5(syst)]x10{-6}. Inspection of the Dalitz plot of signal candidates shows a broad structure peaking near 1.5 GeV/c{2} in the K+K- invariant mass distr… Show more

“…This structure was also seen by the BABAR Collaboration [28] but was not studied separately for B − and B þ components. No significant asymmetry is present in the low-mass region of the K AE π ∓ invariant mass projection.…”

“…The uncertainty due to the yield of the peaking backgrounds is obtained by varying the signal yield in the denominator of the CP asymmetry. The uncertainty due to the asymmetry of the peaking backgrounds is negligible [20]. To account for possible bias due to the charge asymmetry of the detector, we take the uncertainty in the asymmetry of the favored signal as a conservative limit on this effect.…”

“…Moreover, the DP analysis of this channel can be exploited to search for an isospin partner of the f X (1500) resonance, which has been seen to decay to the K + K − final state in B + → K + K − π + decays [8]. The fit yields 262 ± 47 signal events, which lead to the measurement of an inclusive branching fraction of (3.2 ± 0.5 ± 0.3) × 10 −6 .…”
