Observations and geophysical value-added datasets for cold high mountain and polar regions

Abstract: data stream services is needed to address emergency challenges, Earth science research, and UN SDGs (Guo, 2018).This special issue includes eight papers. Five of these are concerned with open valueadded datasets on snow (Jiang et al., 2022), lake ice (Wang et al., 2021), glaciers (Lhakpa et al., 2022, sea ice , and heat fluxes (Duan et al., 2022), respectively, and two others are about the applications based on the in situ and value-added data from remote sensing (Wu et al., 2021;Chalov et al., 2022). In anot… Show more

“…This, in turn, enables the computation of the specular incidence angle. As a result, the SR for LR polarization can be obtained using (5). The LAGRS F/T model calculates DDM observables, which are subsequently employed to differentiate between near-surface frozen and thawed states.…”

“…While traditional methods can accurately describe the F/T cycle at a point scale and provide ground information for validation purposes, they are limited in their applicability to large-scale and long-term trend analyses [5]. Therefore, there is a need for remote sensing techniques that can capture F/T dynamics over extensive areas and extended time periods.…”

“…This provides spatial planning guidance for the development and regeneration of traditional village settlements but the samples of spatial data still need to be expanded to focus on village diversity [25]. Research on village settlements in high-altitude areas has mostly focused on ecological resources [33]. Due to their complex terrain and roads, it is difficult to extract village space data in these areas.…”
