Observations on Air Pollution Aspects of Irazú Volcano, Costa Rica

Abstract: is the fourth tallest mountain in Costa Rica (11,260 feet). It is approxi¬ mately 15 miles east of San Jose, the capital, which has a population of approximately 100,000 (fig. 1). Prevailing easterly winds carry ash from Irazti directly over San Jose. The next closest town, Cartago, is approxi¬ mately 9 miles southwest of Irazti and generally out of the path of volcanic ashfall.
