Some patients still opted for a fertility-sparing approach to treat the recurrence. No recurrence progressed to cancer. 11 patients conceived. Conclusions: To date this is the largest nationwide cohort of BOTs. Our dataset highlights three important issues. First, the option of a fertility-sparing approach is crucial to women of fertility potential and should be offered as first choice to those patients who have either not started or completed a family. Second, our recurrence number has a negligible percentage of invasive recurrences when compared to results quoted in literature (for example, ROBOT study). We hypothesise that an ultrasound scan performed every 3 months at a follow-up appointment results in an earlier detection rate of borderline recurrence. This in turn leads to surgical treatment before invasive transformation. Third, the findings seem to confirm that a thorough ultrasonographic follow-up of BOT recurrence is safe and feasible.
