Odd decays from even anomalies: Gauge mediation signatures without supersymmetry

Abstract5D UED is not automatically minimally flavor violating. This is due to flavor asymmetric counter-terms required on the branes. Additionally, there are likely to be higher dimensional operators which directly contribute to flavor observables. We document a mostly unsuccessful attempt at utilizing localization in a flat extra dimension to resolve these flavor constraints while maintaining KK-parity as a good quantum number. It is unsuccessful insofar as we seem to be forced to add brane operators in such a way as to precisely mimic the effects of a double throat warped extra dimension. In the course of our efforts, we encounter and present solutions to a problem common to many extra dimensional models in which fields are "doubly localized:" ultra-light modes. Under scrutiny, this issue seems tied to an intrinsic tension between maintaining Kaluza-Klein parity and resolving mass hierarchies via localization.

Abstract:We study methods for reconstructing the momenta of invisible particles in cascade decay chains at hadron colliders. We focus on scenarios, such as SUSY and UED, in which new physics particles are pair produced. Their subsequent decays lead to two decay chains ending with neutral stable particles escaping detection. Assuming that the masses of the decaying particles are already measured, we obtain the momenta by imposing the mass-shell constraints. Using this information, we develop techniques of determining spins of particles in theories beyond the standard model. Unlike the methods relying on Lorentz invariant variables, this method can be used to determine the spin of the particle which initiates the decay chain. We present two complementary ways of applying our method by using more inclusive variables relying on kinematic information from one decay chain, as well as constructing correlation variables based on the kinematics of both decay chains in the same event.

Multiphoton signal in supersymmetry comprising nonpointing photon(s) at the LHC

We study a distinct supersymmetric signal of multiphotons in association with jets and missing transverse energy. At least one of these photons has the origin in displaced vertex, and thus it is delayed and nonpointing. We consider a supersymmetric scenario in which the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) (with a mass $1 keV) and the lightest neutralino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP). The NLSP decays dominantly into a photon and a gravitino within the detector with a decay length ranging from c $ 50-100 cm. In addition, we assume that the secondlightest neutralino and the lightest neutralino are nearly degenerate and this leads to a prompt radiative decay of the next-to-lightest neutralino into a photon and a lightest neutralino with a large branching ratio. Such degenerate neutralinos can be realized in various representations of the SUð5Þ, SOð10Þ and Eð6Þ GUT group. The nonpointing photons can be reconstructed at the electromagnetic calorimeter of the ATLAS detector, which have been designed with good timing and directional resolution. We find that with a center-of-mass energy E cm ¼ 14 TeV at an integrated luminosity of 100 fb À1 one may see evidence of hundreds of triphoton events at the LHC, in addition to several thousands diphoton events. We also predict the event rates even at the early phase of LHC run.
