Abstract:Background: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are the main cause of tumorigenesis, recurrence, and drug resistance and ultimately result in poor clinical outcomes. An imbalance in mitochondrial dynamics is an important manifestation of tumorigenesis. Based on increasing evidence, excessive fission and reduced fusion are common features of many tumors. However, the precise functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of OMA1 in the regulation of mitochondrial homeostasis for CSCs remain unknown.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
