The paper introduces a new differential-geometric system which originates from the theory of m-Hessian operators. The core of this system is a new notion of invariant differentiation on surfaces. This novelty gives rise to the following absolute geometric invariants: invariant derivatives of the surface position vector, an invariant connection on a surface via subsurface, curvature matrices of a hypersurface and its normal sections, p-curvatures and m-convexity of a hypersurface, etc. Our system also produces a new interpretation of the classic geometric invariants and offers new tools to solve geometric problems. In order to expose an application of renovated geometry we deduce an a priori C 1 -estimate for solutions to the Dirichlet problem for m-Hessian equations.

Abstract. In this article we consider the existence of positive radial solutions for Hessian equations and systems with weights and we give a necessary condition as well as a sufficient condition for a positive radial solution to be large. The method of proving theorems is essentially based on a successive approximation. Our results complete and improve a recently work published by Zhang and Zhou (Existence of entire positive k-convex radial solutions to Hessian equations and systems with weights, Applied Mathematics Letters, Volume 50, December 2015, Pages 48-55).

2019 г. ноябрь-декабрь т. 74, вып. 6 (450) УСПЕХИ МАТЕМАТИЧЕСКИХ НАУК МАТЕМАТИЧЕСКАЯ ЖИЗНЬ К столетию со дня рождения Алексея Васильевича Погорелова Алексей Васильевич Погорелов родился 3 марта 1919 г. в Короче (ныне Белгородская область) в крестьянской семье. В связи с коллективизацией родители А. В. Погорелова вынуждены были в 1931 г. бежать из деревни в Харьков, где отец устроился работать на строительстве Харьковского тракторного завода. В 1935 г. А. В. Погорелов стал победителем математической олимпиады, которую проводил Харьковский университет. Окончив среднюю школу, в том же 1937 г. поступил на математическое отделение физико-математического факультета Харьковского государственного университета, был лучшим студентом отделения. В 1941 г. был направлен учиться на одиннадцатимесячные курсы в Военно-воздушную инженерную академию им. Н. Е. Жуковского. После победы под Москвой обучение продлили на полный срок. А во время учебы курсантов периодически на несколько месяцев посылали на фронт в качестве техников по обслуживанию самолетов. За участие в Великой Отечественной войне А. В. Погорелов был награжден орденом Отечественной войны II степени. После окончания академии его направили на работу инженером-конструктором в ЦАГИ им. Н. Е. Жуковского. Желание завершить университетское образование и серьезно заняться геометрией приводит А. В. Погорелова в Московский университет. По рекомендации декана мехмата И. Г. Петровского и известного геометра В. Ф. Кагана Алексей Васильевич знакомится с А. Д. Александровым-основателем теории нерегулярных выпуклых поверхностей. В этой теории имелось много новых задач. Одну из них Александр Данилович поставил А. В. Погорелову. За год она была решена, и А. В. Погорелов поступил в заочную аспирантуру механико-математического факультета МГУ к Н. В. Ефимову по тематике А. Д. Александрова. После защиты кандидатской диссертации в 1947 г. был демобилизован и переехал в Харьков, где работал в НИИ математики и механики при ХГУ и на кафедре геометрии.
