In this article, available information on the cross sections and rate coefficients for collisional interactions of dichlorodifluoromethane ͑CCl 2 F 2 ) with electrons is critically evaluated and synthesized. This gas has many industrial uses and is of atmospheric and environmental interest. The CCl 2 F 2 molecule fragments rather extensively under electron impact, principally via dissociative ionization and dissociative attachment; the latter process is temperature dependent. Information is presented and discussed on: ͑1͒ electron scattering processes ͓cross sections for total electron scattering, momentum transfer, differential elastic electron scattering, integral elastic electron scattering, and inelastic electron scattering for rotational and vibrational ͑direct and indirect͒ excitation͔; ͑2͒ electron impact ionization ͑cross sections for total, partial, and double ionization and coefficients for electron impact ionization͒; ͑3͒ electron attachment ͑electron attachment cross sections and rate constants and their energy and temperature dependencies, electron attachment coefficients, dissociative attachment fragment anions, and negative ion states͒; ͑4͒ optical emission under electron impact, and ͑5͒ electron transport coefficients ͑electron drift velocity and ratio of transverse electron diffusion coefficient to electron mobility͒. Based upon the assessment of published experimental data, recommended values of various cross sections and rate coefficients are generated in graphical and tabular form. Areas where additional data are needed are identified, such as the measurement of the cross sections for momentum transfer and electron impact dissociation of CCl 2 F 2 into neutral species.

The swarm parametes for c-C4F8/CF4 mixtures, including the density-normalized effective ionization coefficient, drift velocity and mean energy were calculated using Monte-Carlo method with the null collision technique. The overall density-reduced electric field strength could be varied between 150 and 500 Td, while the c-C4F8 content in gas mixtures is varied in the range of 0-100%. The value of the density-normalized effective ionization coefficient shows a strong dependence on the c-C4F8 content, becoming more electronegative as the content of c-C4F8 is increased. The drift velocity of c-C4F8/CF4 mixtures is more affected by CF4. The calculated limiting field strength for c-C4F8/CF4 mixtures is higher than that of SF6/CF4.

The electron drift velocity, the longitudinal diffusion coefficient, the effective ionization coefficient and the limiting field strength for mixtures of SF 6 with CHF 3 and CF 4 have been measured with a pulsed Townsend technique. The overall density-reduced electric field strength, E/N, could be varied between 60 and 520 Td (1 Td = 10 −17 V cm 2 ), while the SF 6 content in the gas mixtures was varied over the range 1-50%. We have found that the electron drift velocity and the density-normalized longitudinal diffusion coefficient vary weakly with the amount of SF 6 in the mixture. In contrast, the effective ionization coefficient shows a strong dependence with the SF 6 content, becoming more electronegative as the amount of SF 6 is increased. The measured limiting field strength for these two mixtures is lower than those for SF 6 -N 2 . To our knowledge, no previous ionization or electron transport data for these mixtures have been published.
