On co-channel interference measurements

Abstract

Spectral eficiency of a cellular mobile radio system is enhanced throagh the reuse of the available spectrum.The resulting co-channel inte~erence, however, also limits the system capacity. Power cont~ol is needed so that w-channel interference can be maintained within a tolerable bound. Therefore, wchannel carrier to interference ratio (CIR) is often wed as a qaulity indicator for received si@. Various power wntrol algorithms assume perfect CIR measurement have been proposed but there is no mentioning of the measurement method. This paper presents viable solutions for d -t i m e CIR estimations under either additive white Gavssian noise (AWGN) or Ragleigh fading condition. A new algorithm that w e s the concept of probability density finc-tion matching is also proposed to measure CIR an the presence of mdtiple interferers. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the usefelness of the pmposed algorithms.
