On Energy Efficient Survivable Multipath Based Approaches in Space Division Multiplexing Elastic Optical Network: Crosstalk-Aware and Fragmentation-Aware

Abstract: In this paper, we have proposed two energy-efficient heuristics: (i) CMDE-RSCA (crosstalk-aware), and (ii) FMDE-RSCA (fragmentation-aware) to address the issues of inter-core crosstalk, and fragmentation within the core respectively-to ensure quality transmission of the optical signal for dynamic traffic in space division multiplexing elastic optical network (SDM-EON), while maintaining survivability of the network against single link failure. These heuristics based on multipath based survivability are compare… Show more

“…The algorithm also incorporated an inter-core crosstalk avoidance strategy and an ICXT-aware approach to mitigate crosstalk. Additionally, Paira et al [23] proposed the Crosstalk-aware Multipath Distance-adaptive EEbased Routing, Spectrum, and Core Assignment (CMDE-RSCA) scheme and the Fragmentationaware Multipath Distance-adaptive EE-based RSCA (FMDE-RSCA) scheme to reduce crosstalk evidence and minimize energy consumption. The FMDE-RSCA scheme also helped mitigate blocking probability (BP).…”

“…The need to observe these two constraints might lead to a situation of misalignment between available spectral bands along the network links, which is known in the literature as spectral fragmentation (SF). SF has a deleterious effect on network performance [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ].…”

“…These constraints ensure that transmissions occur on a single core along the entire route and that the slots allocated for the request must be contiguous [Zhu et al 2021]. Analytic approaches to various problems pertaining to RCMLSA in SDM-EONs are well documented in the literature and the heuristics developed were shown to perform well [Beyragh et al 2019], [Paira et al 2020] and . However, some disadvantages of such approaches are the labor-intensive development, the lack of adaptability of the developed algorithms, as well as the waste of diagnostic, statistic and historical data continuously produced during the operation of such networks that goes unused.…”
