On resource provisioning in hybrid peer-to-peer live streaming systems

Abstract: Peer-to-Peer live streaming is a promising approach for providing large-scale live video broadcasts on the Internet. In this paper we first discuss why a service provider needs to deploy some server-side capacity in order to guarantee good quality video stream at all times. We then present our results on how a service provider can determine how much server-side capacity it would need to provision in order to meet its target video quality metrics for a given audience participation pattern.
