On some lapses in asepsis in surgical work

Abstract: The authors conducted a number of studies of the air in the operating room, dressing room, and wards, and checked the sterility of surgical staff hands, dressing material, instruments, and sterile solutions. Based on their findings, the authors believe that strict isolation of purulent patients is desirable.

“…The use of a number of electrodes other than hydrogen as indicators for neutralization and for the measurement of pH has been subjected to further study-notably the antimony electrode (182,192), glass electrode (91, 54), oxide electrodes (43), oxygen electrode (26,29,179), platinum electrode (130,181) (unsaturated oxygen electrode), and the quinhydrone electrode (105, 174,175,43).…”

“…Clarke and Wooten (42, see also 175) have adapted the differential method to the determination of weak acids in very dilute solution. (Figure III, 2) In the determination of 0.001 N acetic acid with 0.001 N barium hydroxide the average deviation from the mean of a series of determinations was ±0.8 per cent, and for 0.0004 N acid it was ±1.7 per cent.…”
