On the Effect of Planetary Stable Isotope Compositions on Growth and Survival of Terrestrial Organisms

Abstract: Isotopic compositions of reactants affect the rates of chemical and biochemical reactions. Usually it is assumed that heavy stable isotope enrichment leads to progressively slower reactions. Yet the effect of stable isotopes may be nonlinear, as exemplified by the “isotopic resonance” phenomenon. Since the isotopic compositions of other planets of Solar system, including Mars and Venus, are markedly different from terrestrial (e.g., deuterium content is ≈5 and ≈100 times higher, respectively), it is far from c… Show more

“…We found that long-term DDW consumption by DIO rats normalized the activities of the antioxidant enzymes SOD and CAT. This observation is consistent with previous data regarding the protective effect of DDW on the antioxidant system of the body in various pathologies [18,20,26,50,64,65].…”

“…Our data may not be related to the DDW factor until an exact mechanism of action has been described. However, the effect of deuterium on the change of biochemical parameters values is of interest to the scientific community [13][14][15][16]25,32,47,50,56,57,64,77] et al Therefore, our data will contribute to the study of mechanisms of action in this problem. The data obtained can be used in biomedical and therapeutic research, where deuterium can be considered as an adjuvant regulator of biological processes in the obesity model.…”

“…Different D/H ratio is manifested in the form of kinetic isotope effect, which is characterized by a change in the biotransformation and excretion rates of the drugs [35][36][37] . Moreover, the methodological approaches for drugs quality control based on water isotopology, could reduce the toxic load of the body 38,39 .…”
