On the electro‐optic properties of single crystals of sodium, potassium and rubidium acid phthalates

Abstract: The linear electro-optic (Pockels) effect in a series of alkali metal acid phthalate crystals has been studied. Single electro-optic coefficients rT13 and r:,, for sodium (NaAP), potassium (KAP) and rubidium (RbAP) acid phthalates have been measured by employing the modified Mach-Zehnder interferometric technique. The best electro-optic crystal in this series is RbAP with r~l, =9.10x10-12mV-1, r~3 3 = 3 . 0 5 x 1 0 -1 2 m V -1 and a sizable figure of merit for electro-optic phase retardation, comparable with t… Show more

“…5(2), 886-897 887 Potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) are widely hired in the subject of x-ray spectroscopy as a monochromator and additionally as an analyzer. KHP exhibits pyroelectric, piezoelectric, elastic, nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, elasto-optic [3] and electro-optical studies on a sequence of alkali substituted hydrogen phthalate crystals which included it [4] and it crystallizes in an orthorhombic crystal structure with space group Pca2 1 [5]. KHP has platelet morphology with perfect cleavages alongside the (010) plane.…”

“…Monaco et.al, have reported the formation of 1:1 molecular compounds between amino acid and many different acids [15][16][17][18][19]. Potassium hydrogen phthalate crystals are playing an important role in the field of nonlinear optic materials, they are known SHG material that have long stability in devices due to their electro-optic properties and exhibit interesting in piezoelectric, pyroelectric and elastic properties that are useful in many applications [20][21][22][23]. Pyridine is a heterocyclic organic compound with the chemical formula C 5 H 5 N. Intensive studies on pyridine and pyridine derivatives have been made in the past, keeping in the view of their industrial importance both as fundamental building block and reagent in organic synthesis [24].…”

“…KAP crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system with space group Pca2 1 and KAP crystal exhibits piezoelectric, pyroelectric, ferroelectric, elastic and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties with long term stability in devices 2 . A good number of reports are available on the growth and characterization of pure and impurity added (doped) KAP single crystals [3][4][5][6][7][8] .…”
