Abstract:In this paper we study the evolution of the "Momentarily Static and Radiation Free" (MSRF) initial data for the Apostolatos -Thorne cylindrical shell model. After briefly reviewing the equations of motion, the definition of the MSRF initial data and of its relation to the static solution that corresponds to the given conserved intrinsic parameters of the shell, we show that for MSRF data the initial acceleration of the shell is always directed towards the static radius. We analyze in detail the relation betwee… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
