Oncovascular surgery

Abstract: Major vessel involvement of a tumour mass should not necessarily be considered a barrier to en bloc resection and hence curative surgery. Radical surgical resection may offer the only chance for cure or palliation for these patients. Detailed preoperative planning within an extended multi-disciplinary team that includes vascular specialists is essential for these complex patients.

“…however, these outcomes are comparable to contemporary series of vascular reconstruction during sarcoma surgery where postoperative morbidity rate ranges from 36% to 71%, and major wound healing complications are reported in ≤68%. [22][23][24][25] Reintervention rates vary from 8% to 50%, and limb salvage rates range from 84% to 100%. 22,24,25 to minimize morbidity, patients with extensive vascular involvement should undergo thorough preoperative assessment by a specialist vascular surgeon and be considered at a specific exenteration multidisciplinary team meeting where likelihood of R0 resection is discussed and the sequence of surgical specialties planned meticulously.…”

“…Ascitna tečnost je znak pritiska tumora na portnu ili hepatičke vene. U sklopu kliničke slike retroperitonealnog tumora rijetke manifestacije su edemi donjih ekstremiteta sa pojavom varikoziteta, ili bez njih, edem skrotuma ili labija vulve što je posljedica kompresije na limfni i venski drenažni sistem [7].…”

“…Curative surgery in a variety of tumor locations can be achieved even in this complex subset of patients thanks to a detailed preoperative planning that includes vascular and surgical oncology specialists. 7 Scant data exist regarding the outcomes of patients undergoing compartmental resection for RSTSs associated with an en bloc resection of the major blood vessels. 8 The aim of our study was to analyze the surgical and oncologic outcomes of a consecutive series of patients who were diagnosed a RSTS with vascular involvement and who underwent a multidisciplinary operation and follow-up.…”
