One Pot Synthesis and Characterization of Alginate Stabilized Semiconductor Nanoparticles

Abstract: Uniform and well dispersed metal sulfide semiconductor nanoparticles incorporated into matrices of alginate biopolymer are prepared by using a facile in situ method. The reaction was accomplished by impregnation of alginate with divalent metal ions followed by reaction with thioacetamide. XRD analysis showed that the nanoparticles incorporated in the polymer matrix were of cubic structure with the average particle diameter of 1.8 to 4.8 nm. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and high resolution transm… Show more

“…These interactions cause a disorganization in the polymer structure, resulting in an amorphous phase and in the absence of the peak at 22° in the cross‐linked samples . With the addition of microparticles to the hydrogel, the crystallinity of the material probably diminished, which is indicated by the decreased intensity of the peak . The presence of neomycin sulphate or propolis could not be noted in the XRD profiles of the samples, probably due to low amounts of the added materials .…”

“…Sodium alginate is an amorphous material that shows narrow diffraction peaks at 13° and 22° and a shoulder at 40° . The diffraction peak at 13° is relative to the reflection of the polyguluronate unit of alginate, the peak at 22° is relative to the reflection of the polymannuronate unit, while the shoulder at 40° shows an amorphous halo . The profile of the samples changed when compared with sodium alginate powder.…”

“…Chitosan has been reported to have diffraction peaks at *10°and *20°2h [23]. Collagen, a major constituent of ECM, shows a broad diffraction pattern at 10°2h along with a characteristic peak at 23°2h [24]. The typical peaks (12°2h and 21°2h) of chitosan were noticed in the composite films.…”
