Summary Many sorts of services in the cloud environments must be composited based on the user's requests to meet the requirements. Thus, the distributed services are joined to the cloud services through service composition. Also, it is known as NP‐hard problems and many researchers significantly are focused on this problem in recent years. Therefore, many different nature‐inspired meta‐heuristic techniques are proposed for solving this problem. The nature‐inspired meta‐heuristic techniques have an important role in solving the service composition problem in the cloud environments, but there is not a wide‐ranging and detailed paper about reviewing and studying the important mechanisms in this field. Therefore, this study presents a comprehensive analysis of the nature‐inspired meta‐heuristic techniques for the service composition issue in the cloud computing. The review also contains a classification of the important techniques. These classifications include Ant Colony Optimization, Bee Colony Optimization, Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm, Bat Algorithm, greedy algorithm, and hybrid algorithm. An important aim of this paper is to highlight the emphasis on the optimization algorithms, and the benefits to tackle the challenges are encountered in the cloud service composition. Also, this paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of the nature‐inspired meta‐heuristic algorithms for solving the service composition problem in the cloud environments. Moreover, this paper aims to provide more efficient service composition algorithms in the future. Finally, the obtained results have shown that the discussed algorithms have an important effect in solving the cloud service composition problem, and this effect has been increased in recent years.

Summary Today, service composition is emerging paradigm on the communication networks such as cloud environments, internet of things, wireless sensor network, and software‐defined network. The goal of service composition method is to provide the interactions between user requirements and smart objects of intelligent communication systems. There have been many efforts to use formal verification and behavioral modeling methods to evaluate the service composition mechanisms. Up to now, there is not a comprehensive analysis research on this topic. Therefore, this paper focuses on several formal verification approaches that are performed to confirm the service composition correctness in communication networks. The objective of this paper is to comprehensively categorize and examine current research techniques on formal verification of the service composition. This research analysis provides an overview of recent service composition approaches according to structural and functional properties. Comparison results show that most of the verification approaches in explanation of the service composition correctness are semantic‐aware approach with 43%. The most used verification method for the service composition is model checking with 69%. The process algebra is used 29%, and some theorem proving methods are applied in 9% of the investigated mechanism. Moreover, most widely used modeling tools are NuSMV (22%), SPIN (17%), CPN (12%), UPPAAL (12%), Event‐B (10%), and PAT (5%).

Abstract. Knowledge is a core resource for agile organisations that is transformed into products and services during the development process. Sharing of knowledge is essential across any organisation, and it has been claimed that the software industry requires more knowledge management than any other sector. Agile methodologies concentrate on team level collaboration, and some techniques for inter-team knowledge sharing have also proved to be successful. But these techniques focus on within-team and between-team knowledge sharing rather than knowledge sharing across the organisation. This paper presents the results of a survey with 81 responses on organisational knowledge sharing in a multinational agile company. The survey focuses on three aspects of knowledge sharing: within agile teams, beyond the team with company colleagues, and with customers. It concentrates on knowledge sharing practices, ease of knowledge sharing and motivation for knowledge sharing. Summary statistics, regression, and test of equity are used as analysis techniques. Results show that knowledge sharing with team members is significantly easier than with customers or company colleagues beyond their team. In addition, using agile practices improves ease of knowledge sharing within teams but not with customers or colleagues. Extrinsic motivators need to be in place to encourage knowledge sharing across the organisation, especially where such knowledge sharing is not an automatic consequence of completing the work.
