Ontology-based computer aid for the automation of HAZOP studies

Abstract: Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies are conducted to identify and assess potential hazards which originate from processes, equipment, and process plants. These studies are human-centered processes that are time and labor-intensive. Also, extensive expertsise and experience in the field of process safety engineering are required. In the past, there have been several attempts by different research groups to (semi-)automate HAZOP studies. Within this research, a knowledge-based framework for the automatic gene… Show more

“…These problems can be solved by using model-based safety analysis [15]. In [16], an ontology-based reasoning algorithm was used for automatically generating HAZOP (hazard and operability study) worksheets. A framework was proposed to model and conceptualize the relevant knowledge and information.…”

“…In a journal from Dunjó [8], several incidents and severe accidents have been reported a few years while performing drilling activities and associated operations due to the unpredictable nature of the simultaneous operation. Wu [11], implementing a HAZOP study using a computer-aids method [12] is a must to understand the complexity of the oil and gas industry to improve its safety performance.…”
