Abstract:In this entry, scholarship concerning open and affirming religious organizations is briefly reviewed. Specifically, these religious organizations are defined, their historical trajectory in relation to contemporary society is demonstrated, the two major forms they take within contemporary society are elaborated, and the potential impact of these religious organizations in terms of gendered and sexual inequalities is discussed.
