Open-Framework Cadmium Succinates of Different Dimensionalities

Abstract: Open-framework cadmium succinates, [CN(3)H(6)](2)[Cd(2)(C(4)H(4)O(4))(Cl)(2)], I; [CN(3)H(6)](2)[Cd(C(4)H(4)O(4))(2)], II; Cd(2)(C(4)H(4)O(4))(2)(C(4)N(2)H(8))(H(2)O)(3), III; [C(4)N(2)H(12)][Cd(2)(C(4)H(4)O(4))(3)].4H(2)O, IV; Cd(C(4)H(4)O(4))(H(2)O)(2), V; and Cd(3)(C(4)H(4)O(4))(2)(OH)(2)], VI, of different dimensionalities have been synthesized by hydrothermal procedure by employing two different strategies, one involving the reaction of Cd salts with organic-amine succinates and the other involving the hy… Show more

“…3), which marks the c lattice parameter. It is plausible that the steric hindrance imparted by the gem-dimethyl substituents exerts a structure directing role in this case, preventing the occurrence of cadmium-carboxylate 2-D layer motifs seen in the iminefree hydrated phase [Cd(succinate)(H 2 O) 2 ] n [16] and in the 3-D doubly interpenetrated solid [Cd(succinate)(4,4 0 -dipyridylamine)] n [17]. The [Cd(dms)(H 2 O) 2 ] n helices are similar to the 1-D [Cu(succinate)(H 2 O) 2 ] n helices seen in the 3-D 7 5 9 (quartz dual) topology coordination polymer {[Cu(succinate)(4,4 0 -bpy)(H 2 O) 2 ] Á 2 H 2 O} n [18].…”

“…The second weight loss in the range of 135–700 °C corresponds to the decomposition of the organic ligands. The remaining weight is attributed to the formation of CdO (obsd, 20.40%; calcd, 29.89%) and the slow evaporation of CdO …”

“…Several studies on single crystals of three-dimensional open framework structures complexed with metal ions obtained by hydrothermal method have been reported. 1,2 Kinetic analysis on the thermal decomposition of transition metal succinates obtained by coprecipitation method has also been reported, 3 which led to either single crystalline (0⋅01 mm) or micronsized polycrystalline materials. We have been interested in the nanostructures of metal-organic-based systems.…”
