Open-Ring Butenolides from a Marine-Derived Anti-Neuroinflammatory Fungus Aspergillus terreus Y10

Abstract: To investigate structurally novel and anti-neuroinflammatory natural compounds from marine-derived microorganisms, the secondary metabolites of Aspergillus terreus Y10, a fungus separated from the sediment of the coast in the South China Sea, were studied. Three new compounds (2–4), with novel open-ring butenolide skeletons, were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the culture medium. In addition, a typical new butenolide, asperteretal F (1), was found to dose-dependently inhibit tumor necrosis factor (… Show more

“…Three new compounds with novel open-ring butenolide skeletons were isolated from Aspergillus terreus Y10 (coastal area of Hainan, the South China Sea). One of them, asperteretal F (153) was found to dose-dependently inhibit tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) generation [91]. Asperversiamide G (154) (Figure 14), possessing an unusual pyrano[3,2-f]indole unit, was isolated from Aspergillus versicolor (the South China Sea) and exhibited a potent inhibitory effect against iNO synthase [92].…”

“…The chemical structures of these compounds were recently elucidated and their effects against the expression of TNFα in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated BV2 microglia cells were tested. The most promising compound was asperteretal F, which inhibited the expression of TNFα in a dose-dependent mode, making it an anti-neuroinflammatory candidate for the treatment of NDs [ 23 ].…”
