“…In addition to the pure end-members, titanium–manganese mixtures are being considered for several applications. For example, manganese doping has been investigated to reduce the band gap energy of TiO 2 in order to allow for a greater proportion of the solar spectrum to be absorbed in solar cell applications. Formation of lithiated Mn–Ti solid solutions with the spinel structure has been considered to minimize the capacity loss during cycling of pure lithiated Mn spinel oxide for Li-ion batteries. In our own work, epitaxial single-crystal thin films of Mn x Ti 1– x O 2 with the rutile structure have been synthesized to facilitate the derivation of intrinsic structure–property relationships for energy materials, in particular as it relates to diffusion of inserted lithium ions.…”

“…The patterns of the change of the energy and polarization characteristics of reflected and scattered light by a film, which are determined by the parameters of the film's nonuniformities, can be described on the basis of Stokes vector-parametric representation and linear transformation of the radiation flow by means of Mueller matrices [23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. Four Stokes parameters are considered as the components of a single vector-parameter, which provides complete information about polarized light.…”
