Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of admission control in heterogeneous network environments where users randomly arrive to the system over time and finish service after a random period of time. We formulate the problem as a dynamic and stochastic assignment problem and find optimal control policies using the technique of Semi-Markov Decision processes. The performance of optimal control policies is compared to the performance of a Greedy strategy. Furthermore, we analytically study some structural propertie… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
