Optimal Model for Local Energy Community Scheduling Considering Peer to Peer Electricity Transactions

Abstract: The current energy strategy of the European Union puts the end-user as a key participant in electricity markets. The creation of energy communities has been encouraged by the European Union to increase the penetration of renewable energy and reduce the overall cost of the energy chain. Energy communities are mostly composed of prosumers, which may be households with small-size energy production equipment such as rooftop photovoltaic panels. The local electricity market is an emerging concept that enables the a… Show more

“…To reduce those concerns and to ensure scalability Crespo-Vazquez et al in [27] create a decentralized marked clearing process. Furthermore, the extensive bidirectional information flow required for P2P could be problematic for approaches that try to implement real-time communication, as Faia et al describe in [31]. Especially, with upscaling the number of market participants.…”

“…It is important to note that the minimum amount required to participate in the MIBEL market has been reduced to 200 kW, as the legally required amount of 1000 kW (1 MW) would be impossible to obtain with the 50 prosumers. Figure 5 presents the accumulated consumption and generation of total energy community members, the values are randomly generated using the database used in [29]. The total consumption for the referred periods is 2145.59 kWh per day, which corresponds to an average of 89 kWh per hour.…”

“…at citizens' sites have increased the probability of self-consumption. As a result, local (distributed) energy production is complementing or substituting the traditional pattern of central electricity generation in power plants and delivery through transmission and distribution grids [1]. Fine-grained electricity metering and bidirectional communication are possible due to the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as smart meters and home energy management systems (HEMS), which are penetrating citizens' lives and are said to make systems smarter.…”
