Optimal sampled phase-only hologram (OSPOH)

Abstract: A sampled phase-only hologram (SPOH) is the phase component of the hologram of an object image with pixels being sampled with a periodic grid-cross pattern. The reconstructed image of a SPOH is a sparse image with abundant empty voids and degradation in sharpness and contrast. In this paper we proposed a method based on a new sampling scheme, together with stochastic binary search (SBS), to obtain an optimal sampling lattice that can be applied to generate phase-only holograms with enhanced reconstructed image… Show more

“…Afterwards, a sampled POH method 130 , which down-samples the desired image with a uniform grid-cross lattice prior to the generation of the POH, was also presented to preserve good visual quality on the reconstructed image. Working along this direction, the edge dependent down-sampled lattice 131 , the complementary down-sampled lattice 132 and an optimal sampled phase-only hologram method 133 were presented sequentially to improve the reconstruction quality. Although the above methods can suppress the speckle noise effectively, the down-sampling causes the loss of information.…”

“…Recently, an enhance version of the down-sampling method, known as the optimal sampling method, is reported in [10]. A source image is multiplied with a sampling lattice that is comprised of elements having values of either 1 or -1.…”

“…Organization of the paper is given as follows. After the introduction, in section 2, a brief outline on the optimal sampling method in [10] is described. Next, the proposed enhancement method is presented in section 3.…”
