“…From a practical point of view, no “grounded” inerter has been installed in civil structures yet, whereas cases with the traditional TMD coupled with base isolation systems already exist 34,35 . Moreover, as far as the practical realization of the inerter is concerned, the current trend of literature suggests the use of ball screw inerters to avoid detrimental features such as backlash effects 36‐38 …”

“…The applications of inerter in various mechanical structures have been investigated, such as vehicle suspensions (Hu et al, 2014;Li et al, 2012;Nie et al, 2010;Ning et al, 2019;Smith and Wang, 2004;Wang and Chan, 2011;Yang et al, 2021), train suspension systems (Liao, 2006), building vibration control (Xu, 2005). A generator-based semi-active inerter was proposed to achieve energy harvesting and the captured energy was employed for vibration control of the system (Liu et al, 2020(Liu et al, , 2021Qian et al, 2019). A tunedinerter damper was applied to suppress the vibration of cables, and the results demonstrated that the system's response is improved when a tuned-inerter damper was used (Lazar et al, 2016;Radu et al, 2020).…”

“…In Gonzalez‐Buelga et al, 29 it was verified that the H ∞ optimal solution of the tuning parameters of the TID on a SDOF system under force excitation is the same as TMD‐SDOF system, which is derived by the fixed‐point method. Sun et al 30,31 investigated the performance of serial and parallel TIDs in the base‐isolated building and derived the analytical solution of their tuning parameters via H 2 norm. Shen et al 4 presented the analytical closed‐form solutions of the TID‐SDOF system under base excitation through the fixed‐point method to reduce both structural displacement and acceleration.…”
