The convergence of fibre and wireless technologies realised the fibre-wireless (FiWi) networks. Despite huge capacity offered by fibre, the user experiences a network bottleneck caused by the wireless side. This study investigates wireless local area network (WLAN), the wireless side of the FiWi networks with a gigabits passive optical network (GPON) as the backhaul. The work aims to improve WLAN performance by utilising information gained from GPON. The proposed technique enables all contending stations in multiple access points (APs) WLAN to achieve a desired downlink-to-uplink transmission ratio, k while maintaining maximum throughput. Optimum contention window (CW) sizes for the APs and associate wireless users (WUs) are derived by incorporating the principles of idle sense (IS) and asymmetric AP. However, fairness problem between WUs occurred when they contend the channel with different CW sizes. Hence, this study simplifies the IS scheme to increase fairness between WUs. Furthermore, AP self-adapting and WU adjusting algorithms are proposed to assist the network to achieve the desired k, while maintaining the throughput fairness amongst basis service sets. The robustness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated under various conditions: achieved target k with nearly perfect fairness and gained near-to-maximum throughput within 96% of the theoretical optimum. Resumen− En este artículo se presenta un análisis de las redes alámbricas e inalámbricas en los métodos tradicionalmente utilizados al aire libre, consideraremos la optimización en función de la capacidad, la cobertura e interferencia de un escenario georreferenciado; nos basaremos en el uso de algoritmos que nos ayudarán a la simulación de la conexión más óptima, el cual nos permitirá tener un nuevo análisis del escenario y ser capaz de ahorrar en los presupuestos de los equipos, conexiones y tiempo de instalación, así podemos garantizar la cobertura total para los usuarios. El cual el instalador tendrá la posibilidad de ver la conexión más adecuada para su escenario. El resultado del algoritmo presentado en una gráfica se podrá visualizar tanto la capacidad como la cobertura de la red de comunicación. Empezaremos con una cobertura mínima hasta llegar a la cobertura total de todos los usuarios.Palabras clave− Capacidad, cobertura, kruskal, optimización, Outdoor, Prim.Abstract− This article presents an analysis of the wired and wireless networks in the methods traditionally used outdoors, we will consider the optimization based on the capacity, coverage and interference of a georeferenced scenario; we will be based on the use of algorithms that will help us to simulate the optimal connection, which will allow us to have a new analysis of the scenario and be able to save on equipment budgets, connections and installation time, so we can guarantee the total coverage for users. The installer will have the possibility to see the most suitable connection for your scenario. The result of the algorithm presented in a graph will be able to visualize both the capacity and the coverage of the communication network. We will begin with a minimum coverage until we reach the total coverage of all users.

SummaryThe past decade has brought prolific developments to power systems that range from large‐scale renewable integration to digital twins. Modern power systems consist of highly variable generation clusters. Hence, monitoring and prediction of power generation has become a vital part of today's power systems. On the other hand, detailed real‐time information of power usage is also a key parameter for the control algorithms used for the demand side management. With this information flow, power systems become smart grids which offer improved service and enable many advanced operations. In this regard, the home area network (HAN), which collects the power consumption/generation of household devices, plays a key role. So far, a number of technologies such as ZigBee, Z‐Wave, and Power Line Communication (PLC) have been considered for the HAN. Yet, widely used wireless local area network (WLAN) technology, Wi‐Fi, was not identified as a prominent candidate due to the limitations in its latency and reliability. However, with the introduction of the IEEE 802.11ax standard, Wi‐Fi 6 was developed, and it demonstrates guaranteed latency and reliability for its users. Thus, with its widespread deployment in households, Wi‐Fi is becoming a natural candidate for HAN. In this article, we present a comprehensive HAN protocol based on Wi‐Fi 6 which can achieve guaranteed latency and reliability for HAN users. The results show that when an efficient resource allocation mechanism is in place, using Wi‐Fi for HAN does not adversely affect the other Wi‐Fi users in the normal WLAN.
